Deputy Stage Manager For Christmas Show

We are looking for a capable, friendly and collaborative DSM to work with us on our Christmas show, The Frog Princess at The Point Eastleigh this December.

Salary £3750 for a 5 week engagement period, travel/accommodation in addition where agreed

We are looking for a capable, friendly and collaborative DSM to work with us on our Christmas show, The Frog Princess at The Point Eastleigh this December.

Engagement period

Production Meetings during September - November (dates tbc)

Rehearsals: 18th Oct, 15th, 22rd, 23rd Nov, 24th – 29th Nov, 1st
– 6th & 8th – 11th Dec

Performances: 12th – 28th December (no shows 14th, 18th, 25th, 26th December)

Role Overview: Will call and control the staging of the show supported by the team

Responsibilities

During rehearsals:

  • Take detailed rehearsal notes (blocking, cues, entrances/exits, costume changes)
  • Record everything in the prompt book
  • Support the director, cast, and creative team
  • Assist in preparing/making some props
  • Help organise rehearsals and ensure efficient use of time
  • Keep rehearsals space clean and organised
  • Lead on the running of the tech rehearsal

During performances:

  • Call every performance (lighting, sound, stage cues)
  • Monitor consistency and note any issues in a show report
  • Ensure the show runs exactly as rehearsed
  • Assist with pre-show checks and setup
  • Support backstage running of the show
  • Help with set checks and preparation
  • Operate software like QLAB
  • Assist technical team during the run

Communication & coordination:

  • Share key information with:
    - Cast
    - Creative team
    - Technical departments
  • Work closely with the Technical Manager, especially on health & safety
  • Keep shared google drive up to date for cast and creatives with resources and rehearsal footage
