World Book Play Primary Schools Project

Bringing Stories to Life on a Professional Stage

World Book Play is an exciting creative project celebrating World Book Day 2027, designed for primary schools.

 Working alongside a professional theatre practitioner, students will use a favourite book, story, or theme as inspiration to create an original theatrical performance. The project develops creativity, confidence, communication, teamwork, and performance skills, culminating in a live performance on The Point’s stage. 

This is a collaborative project between schools and theatre professionals. Facilitator visits provide creative direction and support throughout the process, while teachers guide rehearsals between sessions, allowing schools to take ownership of their performance.

Choosing Your Story

Schools are invited to choose a book, story, author, or theme as the starting point for their performance.

This could be: 

  • A favourite class novel
  • A traditional fairy tale with a modern twist
  • A myth or legend
  • A collection of stories by a particular author

The final performance does not need to be a direct adaptation of a book. Schools are encouraged to create an original performance inspired by their chosen text.

Teacher Information Pack

Participating schools will receive

  • Ongoing Practitioner Support
  • Advice and guidance throughout the project
  • Creative Development Visits: Four planned visits across the project to support the creation and development of the performance
  • Rehearsal Guidance: Simple rehearsal suggestions and activities to help maintain momentum between visits
  • Theatre Experience: Students will experience performing in a professional theatre and gain insight into how productions are brought to life

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. The project is designed to support teachers of all experience levels.

  • No. Schools are encouraged to create an original performance inspired by their chosen text.

  • We recommend approximately 20 - 30 minutes each week between facilitator visits in October & November, increasing to 30 mins up to 1 hour per week in January and February.

  • Approximately 15 - 20 minutes per school.

  • The project is aimed primarily at KS2 year groups, although KS1 may be considered.
